Please read the following announcement and join me in congratulating Marty Schwartz for this outstanding achievement. As we all know, Marty has made countless contributions to our field and is a critical scholar in the true sense of the word.

Martin D. Schwartz, Professor of Sociology, has been named the 2008 Fellow of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. The Academy names one Fellow each year in recognition of research excellence and distinguished contributions to education. Schwartz, who has previously won distinguished scholar awards from two different divisions of the American Society of Criminology, is also the first social science recipient of Ohio University's Presidential Research Scholar designation, along with the OU Graduate Professor of the Year, and the Arts and Sciences Best Professor Award (twice). A former visiting research fellow at the U.S. Department of Justice and the University of Melbourne, Australia, he has been chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology twice. The author, co-author or editor (many with Walter DeKeseredy) of 16 books and journal special issues, he has also written more than 130 articles, chapters, and reports, while serving as a reviewer for over 70 refereed journals, publishers and government agencies.
