DCC and Springer

Message from Dawn Rothe:

I wanted to let all of our Division members know that we have at this point renewed our contract with Springer. Springer has have offered to donate 200.00 towards book purchases for the winner of the Critical Criminologist award as well as 100.00 worth of books for the winner of the graduate student paper awards. Additionally, given the overwhelming DCC member vote to support a request for the inclusion of Springer's recognition of the Division's choice of editor and terms of service, Springer has included terms of editorial ship for one term of 3 years with a possible extension of one additional term (not to exceed 6 years). While this is a compromise from the 3/2 we voted on, it is a major accomplishment and a minor compromise given the overall situation. Additionally, as has been pointed out, a 3/3 is a common practice with other Divisions as well as ASC main journals.

I am very pleased that we have been able to get these points addressed and do believe this is in the best interest of the Division.

2) Additionally, I would like to let all the members know that Stephen Muzzatti has agreed to serve as interim editor for the Newsletter for 2010 as no one expressed interest in the position during the call for the editor. Thank you Stephen for stepping up. Please do consider serving the Division and becoming the newsletter editor. It does take all of us volunteering to serve the Division.

Please submit your materials to Stephen for the next Spring Issue at muzzatti@ryerson.ca

3) A call will soon be coming out for DCC awards nominations, please keep in mind members you feel are deserving and should be honored with one of the awards as well as encouraging students to submit for the student paper award.

Have a great week, health, happiness, and peace
Dawn
